A Shaolin Temple pilgrimage

The Shaolin Temple is the birthplace of Shaolin kung fu and buddhism in China.

Kung fu and the temple date back over 1500 years, so it makes sense that the students at YuKungFu should embark on a pilgrimage with Master Yu semi-frequently (about twice a year or so).

The city of Deng Feng, Henan province, is situated a few kilometers from the shaolin temple and a few hour train trip and a bus ride from YuKungFu martial arts academy in Tengzhou(around 7 hours drive).

Deng Feng is an interesting and historical city, lined with  copius amounts of weapon stores and thousands of children running and training in perfect unison.
We usually wander down the Chinese streets browsing at all the weapons, training tools and  kung fu clothing/shoes before haggling to find the best price for the items we wish to take back to YuKungFu school with us for training or gifts.
You can easily spend several days visiting the huge grounds of the Shaolin temple itself. There are famous caves to see, mountains to climb and even performances to watch, not to mention entering the actual temple. We were lucky enough to see a few shaolin warrior monks training nearby the infamous pagoda forest.

A must see is the SanHuang village, a stone temple on top of Song Shan, one of the five Holy mountains in China. The 5 hour hike, thousands of stairs and a Cable bridge is 100% worth the effort. We were amazed by the entire mountain formation and carvings on top.

It is an honour to travel to the Shaolin temple and meet Master Yu\’s Shaolin brothers, truly an experience to remember.

If you\’d like to join such a trip, email directly to find out when our next trip to the shaolin temple is scheduled.
